SENIOR NEWS

Dear seniors and parents,

The end of senior year is quickly approaching. And we have many events coming up. Please take a look over this letter carefully, as it will answer some important questions you may have regarding the end of senior year. For your convenience, there is a calendar of upcoming senior events on the back of this letter.


Prom: As a reminder, you all signed the consent form for prom, which states: Prom is a function sanctioned by the DOE. All DOE policies relating to drugs/alcohol will be strictly enforced as per the Discipline Code. Anyone suspected of being under the influence of drugs/alcohol will be prohibited from attending the Prom, and will be prohibited from participating in the graduation ceremony.

Graduation Practice: Will be held in the auditorium at CTEA on Monday, June 24th at 10:30 am.

Cap & gown & ticket distribution: Will be immediately following graduation practice in the cafeteria. Each student will receive a package with their cap, gown, tassel, special cords and 4 graduation tickets for their family (graduates do not need a ticket). Unfortunately we are at maximum capacity for the venue…we are not able to issue any additional tickets. Please understand that every person entering the venue will need a ticket…children and babies as well. Strollers/car seats/balloons will not be permitted in the theater, they will need to be left outside in the lobby. Wheelchair accessible seating is available.

Graduation: Wednesday, June 26, 2019, 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Students must arrive by 1:00 pm.

York College Performing Arts Center: 94-45 Guy R. Brewer Blvd. Jamaica NY, 11433

Graduation seating: First come, first serve. Ushers will be available to assist with seating. Graduates will begin walking in at 2:00 pm sharp! During the ceremony, parents must remain seated at all times, please do not approach the stage. After graduates exit, parents may then exit as well, meeting their child outside. There is a large parking lot, but it does fill up rather quickly. Once it is full, you will have to look for parking on the street which can be very difficult.


Diploma and transcript distribution: This year graduation and the last day of school happen to be the same day. Guidance counselors will be distributing diplomas and transcripts on Thursday, June 27th in the auditorium. Students should report according to their last name at the times listed below:

A - H 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM

I - Q 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM

R - Z 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Please note that if you wish to receive your diploma in a timely manner, you must return or pay for any owed books.

Mr. Wynn will distribute letters to those who owe books prior to the last day of classes.

  • COMMUNITY SERVICE - Please be reminded that all students are expected to complete at least 10 hours of community service per term, which should be recorded on the Community Service Log that can be found in the main office. Students who complete a minimum of 20 hours per year will have this entered onto their high school transcript. Students who complete a minimum of 100 hours over four years will receive a Service Seal on their diploma.
